Westmoor Farm is part of the Cambridgeshire County Farms Estate and is situated in the heart of the Fens 1.5 miles west of the market town of Chatteris.
Our family has farmed here since October 1959 when my Mother and Father took on the tenancy of a 21 acre smallholding from the then Isle of Ely County Council. Funding was provided from a £100 pools win and extended credit from suppliers. The farm now consists of about 500 acres of arable cropping and has gained an enviable reputation for the conservation work undertaken.
As a result of our efforts we are proud to have won the following awards.
- 2003—We won the “Millennium Cup” for the best conservation farm within the Cambs County Council Farms Estate.
- 2004— We won the “Coronation Bowl” for the best overall farm business within the Cambs County Council Farms Estate.
- 2005— We won the title from the RSPB of Midlands Lapwing Champion. This is the RSPB’s most prestigious award. Later in the year we automatically qualified for the national competition where we took runner up position from entrants from throughout the United Kingdom.
“The natural environment is our most valuable asset and at Westmoor Farm we take care of it”.
